About MJL Art

My name is Matt Lloyd and I’m a pet portrait and wildlife artist from Birmingham, UK.

Born in Birmingham in 1975, I have always had a keen interest in drawing and painting, evidenced by a primary school report stating that I create some lovely artwork but needed to concentrate more in class!

I joined the Royal Navy in 1992 and although this was often a challenging working environment, I always found the time and space to create artwork, at one stage even painting in the cupboard under the stairs.

My inspiration for drawing dogs came when we had our oldest Shih Tzu Chester and he was the model for my first dog drawing. Chester has now been joined by our new Shih Tzu ball of energy Ozzy. The bond we have with our pets is so special and they are an integral part of the family, which makes it so important to capture the character when creating portraits. A pet portrait is a wonderful way to celebrate our pets and create lasting memories.

One of my greatest achievements to date is designing the logo for the Weimaraner Club of Great Britain. I am a keen supporter of Birmingham Dogs Home and through my art sales I have been fortunate enough to be able to donate to the charity.

I enjoy the advantages of using acrylic paints and have paintings hanging on walls worldwide. On this website you will also have the opportunity to view and purchase some of my original paintings. In addition to painting, I also create artwork in pencil and have a significant back catalogue of dog breed and wildlife designs available on a range of products.

Thank you very much for looking at my website and a big thank you to all my customers who have supported me as an artist, my business and my dream.
