“Wild” in the Sky – A Magical Drone Show Inspiring Wildlife Art

Last weekend, I attended an unforgettable drone show at Edgbaston Cricket Club in Birmingham called “Wild.” As an animal portrait and wildlife artist in the UK, I’m always looking for new sources of inspiration — and this event was truly one of the most inspiring experiences I’ve had.

As the sun set, hundreds of glowing drones lifted into the night sky, forming stunning shapes of wildlife animals — from turtles gliding gracefully, to elephants and delicate butterflies fluttering their wings in light. The performance was perfectly timed to music, transforming the dark sky into a living, moving gallery of nature.

The children’s reactions were especially magical. Their laughter, gasps, and pure wonder filled the air as each animal appeared above us. Watching their faces light up reminded me how powerful it is when art whether drawn, painted, or performed through technology, connects us with the natural world. Their joy was infectious and deeply moving.

The crowd’s applause after every new formation showed just how much these animals mean to all of us. Whether wild or domestic, animals have a unique way of bringing people together, sparking awe, compassion, and appreciation.

For me, this event reaffirmed the purpose behind MJLArt: to celebrate wildlife and pets through detailed, expressive artwork. Each animal portrait I create, whether a beloved dog, cat, or a wild creature aims to capture that same sense of wonder and connection I felt watching those drones illuminate the sky.

The “Wild” drone show at Edgbaston was more than just a display of technology — it was a celebration of wildlife through light and creativity, and a reminder that art can inspire us all to cherish and protect the animals we share our world with.
